82. Tanahairku

Blooming from a tender age, he held his loved ones close to heart.
Knowing the rise and fall of man, he had humble beginnings from the start.
Colourful and vibrant, his plumage was lush and truly duly earned.
And yet, the pride that came to grow left this man scorched and burned.

This journey has been difficult, with so many crosses to bear.
In spite of how tribulations may harden a heart, his remained filled with care.
He was a countryman through and through, and a provider for those who had not much.
He thought about those who were and were not his own, treating them equally as such.

I think of the land that we live to walk on, and all that he has built.
For all that he has created, it hurts me to know he has lived with such guilt.
He carried his pains and the snares of the past inside with a fallen crest.
Yet he found precious treasures in the moments where he succeeded with doing his best.

He taught me to be closer to faith and to hold Allah close to my chest.
In his lessons of kindness and compassion, I find peace of mind and rest.
He takes care of his family with goodness and gladness; we are blessed to be kin of his.
Some people are a force of nature; because of him, this country is what it is.
